Pets don’t understand our words.
A dog might associate a configuration of sounds that are mentioned before they get to run free – unfettered, if laws permit.
A cat will put two-and-two together when they hear a word that comes alongside getting a tasty treat – they don’t appreciate the dental hygienic ingredients.
However, one thing that I take to heart, is even though we can’t carry on a conversation, pets know us, and love us; and they know there is a sound that means love – their name. They may never grasp its significance, but to them, hearing their name means more than anything. The name we give our pets is love, and when we call for them, it’s how we say “I love you.”
