So, we may have all “survived” the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar, but instead of making stupid jokes about it, let’s try and remember the people who didn’t survive to see the end of this year.

PLEASE remember the children who died in Sandy Hook Elementary, and the teachers who gave their lives to protect them. They deserve our thoughts more than some stupid doomsday malarkey. This isn’t about gun control, video game violence, or any other media buzzwords, this is about the victims, the poor souls that lost their lives for no reason, the brave souls who gave their lives to protect others, and those they’re leaving behind with a pain that will never heal. It’s such a small consolation that I mention them, but it’s better than paying it no mind at all. I, personally, don’t want to forget, as I think about the days when I’ll be a father. Even the ghost of pain that I can attempt to feel is nothing compared to how the victims loved ones truly feel now.
Even just saying this, I’m still not mentioning all the other people who lost their lives, like victims of the Aurora theater, the Oregon mall, the Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Hurricane Sandy, and many others that just didn’t “make the news.” Remember that your life is precious, and maybe think a little bit more about what you leave behind – compassion, comfort, and love. Make damn sure the people in your life know how much they mean to you.
Be Safe this coming year, and Keep Yourself Alive.
